Students learned about Easter traditions in Canada in a special class before breaking for the Easter long weekend. Teacher Zoryana shared her Easter Egg decorating skills (which she learned from childhood in her native Ukraine, the home of the most beautiful Easter Eggs in the world!) with the class and everyone tried their hand at creating unique and colourful designs on Easter Eggs! Easter is celebrated in Canada with a national holiday on Good Friday (the Friday before Easter) and Easter Sunday, when many Canadians go to church and then have a special dinner with their families. Christians celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ three days after being crucified nearly 2000 years ago.
Children paint and decorate eggs and enjoy an Easter Egg hunt in local parks or in their homes. The Easter Bunny brings everyone chocolates and other sweets to celebrate spring and new life. Spring is a very important time in Canada because people are happy that the long, cold winter is finally over! Happy Easter and Happy Spring!
